ERNOP: Connecting Philanthropy Academia & Practice #15

On the fifteenth edition of our Philanthropisms podcast partnership with the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP), we talk to more academics whose work is featured in the latest batch of short, practitioner-focused ERNOP Research Notes.

In this episode we hear from:

  • Cassandra Chapman (University of Queensland), about her research (with Matthew Hornsey and Jessica Spence) on the extent to which charitable giving decisions are guided by empathy or a desire for effectiveness.
  • Philine van Overbeeke (Gradel Institute of Charity, University of Oxford), about her work on creating a theoretical framework to better understand the value of volunteering.
  • Katy Adams (University of Sheffield) about her research on foundation/grantee power dynamics, through the lens of a case study in which a group of funders attempted to create a single shared application form.
